\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are those that seem to think that burning the American flag is a legal and proper use of their 1st Amendment right. However \"\"that’s not how I was raised. But it has been the norm since Viet Nam. It’s sad really. Instead of seeing a proud symbol of how great our country is, they view it as a viable means of protest. But I’m not here to argue with a group of people that always seem to be on the wrong side of history and while not stubborn, are ignorant and have a severe lack of morals. That being said I will continue to retire shredded or unserviceable flags on Memorial Day as has been the tradition since the end of the Civil War. I do this for friends and neighbors and those that can’t find a Veterans organization that is doing a ceremony. I also set up outside a Missing Man table in remembrance of those that never came home. Below is a graphic showing how it is done.<\/div>\n
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Remember it is a solemn ceremony. Also remember that this isn’t a protest but a retirement of the flag that means so much to so many of us.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The <\/span>U.S. <\/span>Flag <\/span>Code <\/span>states <\/span>that <\/span>an <\/span>unserviceable <\/span>American <\/span>flag <\/span>should <\/span>be <\/span>destroyed <\/span>in <\/span>a <\/span>dignified <\/span>way\u2014preferably <\/span>by <\/span>burning\u2014such <\/span>as <\/span>through <\/span>a <\/span>respectful <\/span>flag\u2011retirement <\/span>ceremony <\/span>or <\/span>by <\/span>taking <\/span>it <\/span>to <\/span>a <\/span>disposal <\/span>box <\/span>at <\/span>organizations <\/span>like <\/span>the <\/span>American <\/span>Legion <\/span>or <\/span>VFW.1<\/a><\/sup><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
